The Museum of the City of Rimini has been opened in 1990: it has seat in an ancient convent and conserve testimonies of the local wealth, collected from diggings, churches and buildings, since the 16th century.
The museum is divided in different sections, among which are worthy the archaeological section and the medieval section.
A wide section is dedicated to the painting of the 14th century and accommodates, besides numerous works of the Rimini School, also works of Giovanni Bellini, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Guercino.
The archaeological section exposes the relicsi of the so-called domus del chirurgo (house of the surgeon), a house discovered in 1989 in Piazza Ferrari, near the museum. Of exceptional importance for number and variety, the exposed surgical instruments represent the most important relic found in the area. In the museum we can admire also numerous mosaics of roman age.
